In December 2017, Borrego Springs Unified School District was awarded a grant of $25,000 to assist the students and their families in removing physical and mental health obstacles that impede student’s pathway to academic success. Research demonstrates that students suffering from dental/orthodontic issues, students that cannot see the whiteboard, who are distracted by family social/emotional issues, students unable to ambulate and students experiencing obesity/poor eating choices are often absent from school and when present, are not able to focus and learn as well as their peers without these challenges. This grant will attempt to close the achievement gap by addressing these health challenges.

To date, the Fund has contributed $207,800 to the Borrego School District.
