Our History

The Borrego Valley Endowment Fund (BVEF) is a 501(c)(3) public benefit corporation dedicated to inspiring and facilitating philanthropy throughout Borrego Springs and the surrounding region. Today, BVEF manages a multimillion-dollar portfolio committed to creating meaningful, lasting benefits for the community.
The organization began operating independently in 1996 after separating from the Borrego Community Health Foundation. Originally known as the Borrego Community Health Society, its mission was to serve as the fundraising partner of its former parent organization and help support access to local healthcare.
In 2015, the Borrego Community Health Society amended its Articles of Incorporation and became the Borrego Valley Endowment Fund. While remaining a public benefit nonprofit corporation, BVEF expanded its mission beyond healthcare to harness the power of philanthropy and create enduring, community-wide benefits for the Borrego region.
Today, BVEF supports the issues that matter most to the health, strength, and future of the community. Its areas of focus include air-quality monitoring, biodiversity protection, children and education, community resource development and governance, healthcare, access to affordable water, and support for Borrego’s senior population.
